One of the genres I am currently creating for my project is social media. By using twitter, I am able to reach an audience and successfully relay information of the organization I wrote my research paper on (MEDLIFE). Twitter is vastly different from a research paper. For example, each tweet has a limit of characters you can utilize, meaning you only have a set amount of words to get your message to the audience and engage them. The change of audience also differentiates this genre from a paper. My research paper was geared to a single person, the Reader of my essay. On twitter, anyone can see my tweets as long as they follow me. Twitter allows me to speak about my topic on a wider scale of people, all the while putting our information that spreads awareness. The rhetorical appeals that I am using for twitter or mostly pathos, with a little bit of logos. I favored pathos over any rhetorical appeal because I felt that it was most likely produce the reaction I want from my audience, which is sympathy from those who are low-income, especially those in developing countries.

The Bedford Book of Genres talks about how our pieces should be sequenced. Meaning, we should arrange our project in a way that convinces the audience to take action or agree with our topic. My goal for this project is to share information about the efforts of MEDLIFE to help low income families by highlighting difference rhetorical appeals. I will use an emotional appeal by sharing the stories of those MEDLIFE has helped on twitter. To establish credibility (ethos) for MEDLIFE, I will use sidewalk chalk to show my audience that an info session is available so they can learn even more about the organization and what it stands for. Lastly, I will use a flyer to highlight logos, the information and statistical appeal. Using these three appeals in these genres cause me to believe that my audience will receive information that causes them to appreciate MEDLIFE and what its members do to serve local and international communities.
